"Eye of the Beholder" began as a single vessel, designed to be a unique sculptural self portrait. The cups that form the set were an after thought and designed to complete the set in the Spring of 2021. Ocean waves wrap around the bottom of the vessel beneath the light blue skyline. Above the skyline, at the bottom of the neck of the vessel, a brown mountain range supports the vine like arms that ascend to the figure's collar. The bottle top is designed like a cork stopper and rests snuggly into the vessel. The whimsical, cartoonish head is topped with a brown cloak that fits like a hat. The large eye is exaggerated, accentuating the visual. The cloak forming the top hat brings a unique message to the viewer. Before the cups were made, I entitled this piece, "THE MESSENGER". After completing the cups, I changed the name of the piece to "Eye Of The Beholder" due to the fact that the set as a whole had a different feel. The missing eye from the vessel is found on all four of the cups and rises and sets like a sun in a different spot on each cup.
